Tulum Tips and Tricks

Transport In Tulum

Options

Transportation around Tulum (especially cabs/taxis) is notoriously expensive! There are a few ways around this - there is an app called InDrive that functions similarly to Uber and is typically cheaper than calling a cab. I have been told to specifically avoid calling a cab from the hotel concierge, as they can be really expensive. There is also an option to rent scooters and bikes from the hotel for 24 hours at a really reasonable price, which many people use to explore the town. To get to and from the beach club, there is a free shuttle run by the hotel that runs throughout the day.

TIMESHARE PRESENTATION

Avoid

Secrets resorts are apparently known for trying to get you to go to a timeshare presentation at another resort. This will be presented as a free day at Secrets Akumel including breakfast and a tour of the resort, etc. I've been told this happens during check-in, and I'm going to try to ask them not to do it to our group, but if you experience this, firmly tell them no and that you used all of your money to come to this wedding (so that they leave you alone and don't ask again). lol.

Resort Navigation

Confusing

The resort is made up of one full circle and two half circles attached, which can make it a little bit confusing to navigate. There is a picture of a map on the schedule tab, and I will send it in the GroupMe as well (please download the app if you haven't already). Additionally, the pools on the main level of the resort are surrounded by sand to give them a "cenote feel." If you don't like sand by your pool, this can be avoided by going to one of the rooftop pools that don't have sand surrounding them! Another note - if you haven't figured it out already, the beach is not attached to the resort! The resort is in the jungle, but there is a shuttle that runs to and from the beach club all day so you can easily get there. If you want to go earlier than the shuttles start, you could look into renting a bike or scooter from the front desk

Things to Do

Fun

If you want to venture out of the resort, here are some things I've found from my research to be worth it! The cenotes are highly recommended in Tulum! If interested in seeing them, I believe the resort coordinates a cenote tour on Thursdays. I have also seen that there are some cenotes very close to the beach club that you can walk to. Other recommended things are exploring the little town area by the beach club! This has a lot of cute restaurants, boutiques, and beach clubs. Matcha Mama is highly recommended for matcha, smoothies, and smoothie bowls! The Mayan Ruins are also highly recommended.
