Let's set the scene: December 25th 2019, Lindsey and Nick decided on having a very isolated Christmas morning together during the midst of a Covid case surge. They planned on opening gifts in the morning and having delicious dry aged steak dinner for two later on. While it was typical for Lindsey to wake and make her coffee immediately, she was delayed in doing so by the first stage of Nick's multistep plan to ensure that she found the ring. From the start of this tale, it is imperative to highlight that Lindsey requires a cup of joe within minutes of waking. There is no exception. It must be done quickly, or bystanders beware. That morning, Nick ushered Lindsey away from the coffee maker to begin opening his gifts first. Lindsey found this odd, as Nick knew exactly what he risked if coffee was not quickly produced. However, rage was thwarted as she thought of his happiness and excitement to open gifts together, so she did not protest. The first gift, a squishy medium-sized package was thrust toward her. "Start with this one" he said overzealously. Lindsey peeled by the wrapping back to find a bag of small batch coffee. Perfect! While Lindsey opened a few other stocking stuffers, Nick hovered around the kitchen -- and Lindsey wondered when he would start grinding those beans he'd been anxious to open. Lindsey motioned to the coffee maker, and tossed him the bag of fresh beans, "come on, lets get it going". He handed the back bag, "No you can do it, its your gift". Not amused, and caffeine depleted, Lindsey left the sparkling Christmas tree to get the job done in a timely fashion. Begrudgingly she cleared the hopper and grinder of any of the previously held beans, knowing that Nick does not like to mix his coffee beans, preferring unadulterated essences from each individual batch. This took a few long minutes. As patience levels dropped, Lindsey remained outwardly calm, but inward knew that her mood was on the precipice of good vs evil, dependent upon how quickly her Sumatran elixir could quell the coffee monster inside. She opened the coffee bag to find... it was already ground coffee. Blasphemy! How did she not notice this through the package?! But no problem, she thought, knowing she'd eliminate the few precious moments it would take to grind the beans. She hurriedly reached for a filter, popped open the basket to place it in, and *dramatically grunted* in frustration to find a foreign object rattling around as the basket opened. A grey felt box? Her sluggish brain did not compute. Suddenly a shaky hand emerged from Lindsey's left peripheral view, and she turned to find Nick on one knee beside her and reaching for the small felt box. He opened the box, revealing her engagement ring! He asked, she said yes, and then, finally, they had their coffee.
