Patrick and Janaye met through a popular dating app shortly before Janaye began her third year of law school. She was about to delete the app when Patrick's profile popped up. Even though Patrick didn't have anything written in his profile, Janaye took a chance and swiped right. After about a week and a half of talking on the phone for two hours each night, Patrick drove down from Tallahassee to Orlando to take Janaye on their first date. After dinner, during a walk on the beach, Patrick thought it would be cute to give Janaye a piggy-back ride back to the car as it started to rain. However, Janaye was very sore from a workout the day before, and almost killed Patrick after he tried to pick her up. Patrick thought it was over before it even started, but little did he know, that by the end of the date Janaye knew that Patrick was going to be an important person in her life.

Patrick planned a surprise weekend to Clearwater Beach, the place where Janaye and Patrick took their first trip together and asked her to be his girlfriend. Janaye was suspicious about the motivation of the trip from the moment he mentioned it, but Patrick didn't let that deter him from setting up the best proposal weekend. In one day, Patrick recreated the entire first vacation! He booked the same hotel, took Janaye to the zoo, and bought the same beach towels and travel cups the two used when they watched the sunset on the beach for the first time together. On December 8, 2018, Patrick got down on one knee as the sun was setting and made Janaye the happiest girl in the world!
