It’s About Time

Like many modern love stories, ours started with a conversation. What was supposed to be a quick conversation somehow turned into nearly nine hours. By the end of it, we both felt like we had known each other our whole lives. There was something between us, a familiarity that neither of us could quite explain, but we both felt deeply. Looking back, it’s funny that it took us so long to find each other. For years, our lives moved through the same city without ever intersecting. Then, when the timing was right, everything changed. From the beginning, friendship became the foundation of our relationship. We talked for hours then, and honestly, we still do now. Less than a month after we met, Jan had a dream that we got married in Paris. At the time, it probably sounded a little crazy considering how little we actually knew each other. But Jan has always insisted he knew very early on that we were meant to be together. A few days later, flights were booked and Jan was making plans to get his very first passport. Looking back, it’s hard not to laugh at how quickly things escalated. Apparently, a dream about marrying someone in Paris is one way to fast-track international travel. Less than eight months later, we had already traveled to four different countries, including two international marriage proposals, one with just the two of us in the Bahamas and another at a waterfall in Jamaica with our kids. Most people would probably call it crazy. But when you know, you know. And if you know us, the rest of the story probably isn’t all that surprising. Travel had always been a part of Lawanna and Yasmine’s story. After we met, it quickly became part of ours. As we built a life together, we also built a collection of memories, traditions, and adventures that were uniquely ours. Along the way, we turned a shared love of adventure into one of the foundations of our family and discovered that some of our favorite adventures weren’t about where we went, but who we shared them with. Over the years, we’ve grown together, challenged each other, celebrated life’s victories, supported each other through life’s hardships, and built a life neither of us could have imagined when we first met. Along the way, we blended our families, created countless memories, and learned that the best parts of life are often the ones shared with the people we love. What started as a friendship became a partnership. That partnership became a life. And somewhere along the way, we became each other’s person.
