We were both pursuing our Undergraduate degrees in Mathematics at the University of Utah and had a Discrete Mathematics class together in the Spring. While math rips most people apart, it brought us together. After many study groups, we knew that we just fit together. He knew she was the right angle for him, and she knew he was acute! We had our first date at the Tulip festival, and our feelings grew exponentially from there.
After they finished their Undergraduate degrees, their paths started to go in different directions, but there was no doubt that they were staying together. Jana took a job with a software company that moved her to West Virginia right after school, and Michael stayed in Utah to earn a master’s degree in Finance. Later, Jana's work moved her from the smokey mountains to New Mexico for a short time, then out east to Connecticut. Although they were far apart geographically, they found that their love knows no distance. They also found that video calling is a game changer.
With the Covid-19 Pandemic hitting early in 2020, we were starting to get used to staying home and not going out. After work, he asked if she wanted to go to the park; that was the new go-to activity to get out of the house. Wandering around the park, they found a grove that had a beautiful wintry pine archway. Underneath the arch, Michael got on one knee and popped the question!
