We met at the first birthday party for the son of mutual friends/coworkers. During the party a woman approached Jana and said that Floyd suggested that they meet as both were animal lovers. This came as a surprise to Jana as she had only met Floyd once during a short encounter as they passed each other in the hallway at work. Apparently Floyd had done his research and had looked over Jana's Facebook profile. Later on Floyd stood behind Jana to provide support as she climbed onto a bench to take better pictures. As the party was dying down, Floyd struck up a conversation with Jana which eventually led him to adding her on Facebook and inviting her to dinner. Jana accepted under one condition, it was as friends, nothing more. She wasn't interested in dating a coworker. Over the next four months they became best friends. They both felt extremely comfortable around each other and spent more and more time together. Both of their friends told Jana she was crazy if she didn't date him. In March of 2018 they both went to Vegas for Baker to Vegas to support their coworkers running the race. This trip, a couple of events that unfolded, and Floyd's reaction to those events opened Jana's eyes; she was crazy if she didn't date him. They decided to give dating a try Easter weekend.

Floyd and Jana traveled to Carmel to visit with Jana's family. The night they arrived Jana's mother told them that they were going to take some family pictures. Jana found this odd as not everyone had arrived yet. She begrudgingly changed her clothes and straightened her hair, but wondered why no one else was getting ready. Jana met her mother and Floyd outside and thought they were waiting for everyone else. Jana's mother began to take pictures when to Jana's surprise Floyd got down on one knee and popped the question. Jana said yes of course to which Floyd responded by petting her head. Jana's mother was not taking pictures, she had videotaped the proposal. Fun fact, Floyd proposed on their mutual friends/coworkers son's third birthday, the same child whose first birthday party brought them together.
