Our Story

April 4, 2007

Kismet: On 04/04/2007, two nerdy teenagers crossed paths during a meeting for an NYC-based program that placed students in independent schools- hence the nerdy part. Jami and her mom sat near Alex and his dad, so Jami's mom also met Alex's dad. That day, Alex and Jami found out they weren't going to the same high school that autumn. But going to different high schools and colleges did not prevent their friendship from blossoming. For many years since the day they met, Alex and Jami spent time together exploring NYC, attending Yankees baseball games and Oliver program events, and talking on the phone or Skype for life and relationship advice. Adulthood brought both of them back to NYC for work and their respective families. Finding time to hang out while navigating their professional careers was tricky, so they would sometimes go weeks without talking. But they hung out for birthdays and just casually caught up, and each time they did, they were reminded of how strong their bond was. On one occasion, they joked that if neither was married or in a serious relationship by the age of 30, they would marry each other (a nod to one of their favorite shows at the time- "How I Met Your Mother"). Despite never being single at the same time, their closeness being in flux at times, and other bumps in the road, Jami's heart broke when Alex told her he was leaving NYC in the summer of 2019 for a new career opportunity in MA. They both expressed the love they had for each other, which had been growing since the day they met. And the rest was history! Fast-forward 13 years from the exact day that they met. On 04/04/2020, Alex got down on one knee and popped the question he had thought about since he was 17 when he told her he would "marry [her] right there if the world was ending tomorrow." He even creased his Concord 11s, so that's how you know it's real. While COVID sidelined an engagement party and most gatherings, we are excited to be able to celebrate our wedding with you!
