It’s a traditional wedding ceremony within the Catholic Church that includes both the celebration of marriage and a full Mass (a worship service with prayers, readings, and Communion).
Typically about 60–75 minutes, depending on music and readings.
Not at all! All are welcome to attend and participate respectfully.
You can simply follow the lead of others around you. A program outlining the ceremony will be given day of. Guide: • Stand for prayers, the Gospel reading, and parts of the ceremony • Sit for readings and the homily (sermon) • Kneel during certain prayers if you’re comfortable (this is optional for guests)
At one point, guests will briefly greet those around them with a handshake or “peace be with you.” Feel free to participate or simply smile.
Communion is a sacred part of the Catholic Mass where practicing Catholics receive the Eucharist (blessed bread and wine). If you are not Catholic, you are kindly asked to remain seated or come forward with arms crossed over your chest for a blessing (optional).
Yes! Catholic weddings often include hymns or songs. You’re welcome to join in if you feel comfortable.
There are call-and-response prayers during Mass. Feel free to participate or simply listen, either is perfectly respectful. A program outlining the ceremony will be given day of.
Just a few things: • Please silence your phone • Avoid taking photos during the ceremony unless told otherwise • Refrain from receiving Communion if you are not Catholic
A Catholic wedding Mass is not just a legal union, but a sacrament, a sacred covenant believed to be blessed by God, witnessed by family and friends.
Attire is semi-casual to semi-formal, florals and colors encouraged. Out of respect for the church, we recommend modest and respectful clothing.
