On October 20th Richard told me he planned a romantic date for the following night and to wear something nice. This wasn’t too out of the blue because he has always been spontaneous and loves keeping the relationship exciting and full of surprises. The following day I went out and bought a new dress, I made sure I did my hair and makeup for our date and I waited for Richard to pick me up. We headed downtown for our dinner reservation. We were running a little behind on time and I could feel something was going on because Richard was taking deep breaths and blowing out as if he was nervous. I asked if he was okay and he said he just didnt want to be late for dinner. My hands were starting to sweat and I started getting nervous too. He took me to Texas de Brazil, my favorite! We sat down, laughed, and talked about our future. Finally we leave the restaurant and Richard suggests we should go see the ducks at The Peabody. I thought the ducks aren’t out at random times, I’m pretty sure it’s during a scheduled time. We walk around the lobby; Richard is stalling. He then turns to me and says he has a surprise, but he has to cover my eyes. At this point I’m more nervous, I can almost anticipate what’s coming. After some convincing, I let him cover my eyes and lead me into a hallway. He tells me to keep my eyes closed and to trust him because its a surprise. I say okay. I hear shushing and I hear music of a piano playing from an overhead speaker. He’s still holding my hand when we get to the end of the room and I feel him getting down on the floor. He says I can look and before I even open my eyes I’m already crying. I look around with my tear-filled eyes. I see candles, rose petals and I see that Richard planned a proposal at The Peabody with all my close friends and family present to experience this memorable moment with us. Everything felt so surreal. On October 21st Richard is down on one knee and asks, Jamie Denise Pena, will you marry me? I said yes!!
