It was May 4th, 2017. Jamie and Gerald were in the midst of their two week adventure together traveling throughout the United Kingdom and France. During their travels they ate lavishly, sipped Pimms and Bordeaux liberally, and explored all of the touristy musts. This morning’s adventure was off the beaten path but a covert plan was in the works. They were set to tour the hallowed grounds where the annual Wimbledon Tennis Championships are played. As an avid tennis fan Gerald was beside himself and excited for the morning’s event. Jamie was puzzled and dubious questions arose. “Will they have snacks there? Who is playing? Will Nadal be there?”. As they could begin to see the enormous venue in the distance Gerald’s pace hastened. With his normal flippancy he fended off the flurry of questions. “Yes, there will be snacks - we just ate breakfast anyway. No one is playing today. Nadal doesn’t live at Wimbledon, Honey.” They donned their badges and entered. The history and prominence were immediately perceptible. Even Jamie was in awe entering the complex. Their tour soon began led by a perfectly proper english speaking historian. Roaming from court to court, hill to hill, press room to locker room, dining hall to player lounges, the impact and appreciation grew. Enjoying every second the visit was soon coming to a close. The last stop was the most famous tennis court in the World, where all time greats such as Lendl, Mcenroe, Rafter, Connors, Becker, Bjorg, Laver, and Rafael Nadal all have triumphed. They arrived at Centre Court. It was here where both Jamie and Gerald’s lives would forever change. The guide said they could linger as long as they liked to take in the sights. They stayed until all the others had left. Finally, after calming his nerves, Gerald grabbed Jamie by the hand, got down on one knee, presented the ring, and asked Jamie to be his wife. With tears in her eyes, Jamie joyously exclaimed “Yes!”.
