The River Dart winds its way for around 75 km, passing through lush valleys and charming towns like Buckfastleigh, Totnes, and Dartmouth. It even flows through Staverton, just a short stroll from Kingston Estate. If you're looking to explore the area around the wedding venue, we highly recommend a wander down to the river—perfect for peaceful, scenic walks along the water’s edge. For a more adventurous outing, hop aboard a 90-minute river cruise from Totnes to Dartmouth. Along the way, you’ll pass the grand façade of the Britannia Royal Naval College, the enchanting Greenway Estate (once home to Agatha Christie), and the postcard-perfect riverside villages of Stoke Gabriel and Dittisham, as well as the beautiful Sharpham Estate.
Nestled on the banks of the River Dart, Dartmouth is a historic harbour town brimming with charm, maritime heritage, and natural beauty. Its cobbled streets, colourful waterfront, and medieval architecture make it a joy to explore. Visitors can tour the 14th-century Dartmouth Castle, stroll through the tranquil Royal Avenue Gardens, or hop on a river cruise to nearby Totnes or Agatha Christie’s Greenway Estate. How many wedding venues can claim to be near not one, but two steam railway lines? The closest rail adventure to Kingston Estate is the South Devon Railway (SDR), a heritage steam line that runs from Totnes to Buckfastleigh, passing through Staverton—just a short walk from the estate itself. For those arriving by train or looking to explore the area, stepping aboard this nostalgic journey is a wonderful way to experience the charm of the Dart Valley. Further down the coast, the second steam-powered experience awaits. The Dartmouth Steam Railway travels from Paignton to Kingswear, hugging the coastline and offering stunning views of beaches and countryside. Once in Kingswear, a quick ferry ride takes you across the River Dart to the historic town of Dartmouth, where cobbled streets, riverside cafés, and maritime heritage await.
