Jamie and Daveed met in August 2019 at Harlem Public, a favorite watering hole in uptown Manhattan. Daveed was with his friend Michael, and they sat at the bar to watch the University of Miami vs. University of Florida football game. Unbeknownst to him, a former University of Florida Gator, Jamie Askey, and her friend Bella, sat down next to them to watch as well. During halftime, Bella's ring fell off and was recovered by Daveed. The four new friends started chit chatting, and at the end of the night Daveed asked Jamie if he could see her again. The two had no idea that this chance meeting would set the stage for the biggest adventure of their lives. The couple dated for a few months in what can only be described as a long-distance relationship. They commuted over an hour from Bed-Stuy to Sugar Hill almost every day. However, their commute was very suddenly cut to only a matter of inches in March of 2020. Upon hearing about the COVID-19 pandemic, Daveed suggested that they spend a week or so in Philadelphia; just until the whole thing blew over and the curve had been flattened. Jamie and Daveed ended up spending two months in Philadelphia with the Buzaglo family where they did puzzles, took long walks and reorganized the entire house! In May, Daveed and Jamie bid Philadelphia goodbye and went down to Florida to spend time with Jamie’s family. While they were down there, they welcomed the newest member to their family, a blue French Bulldog named Rascal Dogger Askey! After raising Rascal for two months in Florida, Daveed and Jamie decided it was time to get a place of their own. In August, they moved into a beautiful one-bedroom apartment in Hamilton Heights where they still live today! While they both love to travel all over and have had many adventures, their favorite thing to do together is to take Rascal on his beautiful daily walk around City College.
