How We Met

First comes hockey, then comes marriage.

We first met in February 2020 when Jamie was invited by some friends to go to a University of Arkansas Hockey game so that one of her friends could get set up with one of the players... little did she know that hockey player would be her future husband. After the game, Jamie's friend and her were introduced to Dakota, but her friend and him ended up not hitting it off. Anyhow, about a year later, Jamie's brother convinced her to download a dating app for the first time over Christmas Break and within the first hour she recognized a familiar hockey player. They started messaging, laughing over the first time they had met a year prior, and Dakota invited her to go out for coffee when they both returned to Fayetteville. They ended up talking for more than 3 hours over coffee and the rest is history!

The Proposal

Coffee Shops + Square Walks

On July 29th, 2023, Dakota's best friend Chris and his girlfriend were in NWA visiting for the weekend. Jamie, having no idea what the day had in store, suggested that the group go up to Bentonville for the morning to go visit the Bentonville Farmer's Market. While at the Bentonville Square, she wanted to take everyone to Airship Coffee to show the group a building the Architecture firm she works at designed. Little did she know that the plan for the day was to visit the coffee shop in Fayetteville where Jamie and Dakota had their first date. If they got coffee in the morning, Dakota would have no excuse to go get coffee again a few hours later. So Dakota pulled Chris aside and told him that he needed to act sick so they could leave the Farmer's Market early to head back to Fayetteville. Chris proceeded to give an Oscar worthy performance of heaving over and acting like he was essentially dying. The group then drove back to Fayetteville to get Chris back so he could "rest". Then, Jamie and Dakota got ready for a lunch in the Fayetteville Square for Dakota's office. It was not a real lunch, but Jamie thought it was especially after receiving an email invitation from Dakota's manager. They proceeded to head to the square when Dakota suggested that they stop for coffee since they couldn't get it earlier. After grabbing coffee and heading to the Fayetteville Square for lunch, they were then running late and Jamie was pulling Dakota along to try and get him to hurry up for this "important work lunch". Dakota stopped along the square where he knelt down on one knee and proposed in the same spot they took formal pictures for their last college function together. She said yes and was later surprised with an engagement party at their house with family and friends!
