Our Story

We met through our mutual friends Jon & Gillian - Alex remembers seeing Jamie for the first time, walking up the hill at Dolores Park in scrubs and glasses, hi-vis bike helmet in hand, coming to have "one beer" on an uncharacteristically warm day in San Francisco for Jon's birthday. Alex was impressed by Jamie's ability to show off her dance moves one minute then pull glass out of Rachel's foot the next. After another similar get together Jamie remembers how nice and a little funny Alex was and started referring to him as "Salt and Pepper." Third time was the charm a whole year later at Jon's now 30th birthday - a camping trip in Napa. They kept catching each other's eye across the campfire and ended up going on a late night walk, talking about their middle names, laying on the ground watching the stars, and sharing their first smooch. After later disagreeing on "if you had to choose only two herbs for the rest of your life" (Alex's were cilantro and oregano while Jamie's were basil and mint), Alex asked Jamie on a date. The rest went better than either of them could have expected. They spent their weekends driving back and forth between Sacramento and San Francisco or off on other mutual adventures. Jamie visited Alex while he was working in Hawai'i, they struggled together to remember high school Spanish well enough to order tacos and mezcalitas in Bacalar, and discovered new bike routes throughout Northern California. Jamie taught Alex how to make the perfect cup of coffee, the ins and outs of backpacking, the importance of pancakes and comfy chairs while camping, the difference between a tablespoon and a teaspoon, and the importance of stopping at every rose on a walk to see if it smells good or not. Alex taught Jamie that important conversations are done best in a hammock, the merits of four vs. six cylinders, that hands are for holding, that Lamborghinis are pretty, the difference between a scrub jay and a red-winged blackbird, and that his hair looks great even if they have been camping for six days. Alex brought Jamie back to the beach where about two years earlier he had told her "I'm only interested in you" to ask her to marry him. If "EEEEK" means yes, she said "YESSSSSS!" We have had so much fun planning this party to celebrate our love and cannot wait to celebrate with you all. There will be dancing, smooching, mezcalitas, and hopefully no broken glass in anyone's foot. We love you, thank you so much for loving us! Short version: they met, fell in love, and are currently having their happily ever after.
