It was a Saturday night in the summer of 2010. At Chico State, this meant only one thing: 80's night at La Salles. Jamie and Karl found themselves both on the dance floor when a remix of Oasis' "Wonderwall" came on. While dancing back to back, their eyes met. They proceeded to show off their dance moves until "Pour Some Sugar On Me" blasted through the speakers. Jamie immediately--and urgently--needed to find her friends. "This is our favorite song!" She yelled over the noise. She was gone... or so Karl thought. Later that night, Jamie was chatting outside her sorority house on 3rd and Normal Street with a girlfriend when who comes walking down the street... yup, you guessed it, Karl. "Look who it is!" yells Jamie as Karl approaches. The rest of the evening was spent chatting on that corner, making up stories about the drunk students walking home, joking, laughing, and talking until the sun came up.

In August of 2020, Karl, Jamie, and Harper were on their way up to Lake Tahoe for a week of R&R and fun in the sun. Little did Jamie know, Karl had plans to propose. With a bottle of champagne hidden underneath his seat, Karl spent the next 2 hours strategizing all the ways he could ask. On a hike, by the lake, on top of a mountain.. the nerves began to set in. After arriving at their home away home, Karl and Jamie unpacked and got settled. A mere 30 minutes past and Karl couldn't wait a minute longer. He set up his camera as if he wanted to "video" the arrival of the trip (a typical move for the video enthusiast he is). After asking Jamie to come over and give him a hug "for the shot". As he dropped to one knee, he asked, "Will You Marry Me?" Jamie was completely surprised, speechless, and absolutely shocked. Was this another joke of Karl's pretending to propose?! After a few minutes of Karl convincing her that this was, in fact, no joke and he couldn't wait a minute longer, she finally said, "YES of course!" Karl got out the champagne and the two of them spent the rest of the evening informing close friends and family about the news, celebrating this next chapter of their story.
