A great spot to get out and stretch your legs on the drive from Denver to Breck! It is only about 0.75 miles to the lake, but you can hike farther if you'd like. Most of the hike in is on an incline. They do require $5 cash for parking.
A scenic drive up a mountain pass that brings you to 11,990 feet... If you're wanting the views without the hiking effort! It is about a 40 minute drive from Breckenridge, passing Keystone and Arapahoe Basin Ski Resorts, to the summit of the pass. There's a parking lot at the top if you want to get out and snap some pics! You could also hit this road on your way to or from Denver. It is a very windy road lacking guard rails!
This is one of our favorite hikes, and great for visitors! The trail head is about a 30 minute drive from Breck. The hike is a little under 3 miles round trip to the basin where the mining ruins are, but you can go further if you're feeling up to it! The hike to the mining ruins is a slow 900 ft. of elevation gain.
A 20 minute drive South from Breck... even the parking lot is beautiful! You can just hang out right by the lake, or hike and wonder around. There is a one mile Blue Lakes Trail, or you can also access the 2.8 mile Monte Cristo Gulch Trail from this parking lot.
If you're itching to get a 14er under your belt ;) This is a VERY challenging hike! 6.75 miles round trip with 3,450ft elevation gain. You'll need lots of water, food, and layers! Please let us know if you'd like to do this one, and we'll give you some more tips!
