How we met

Jimmy and Erin originally met at Calvary Chapel Farmville (CCF) in 2012, but they were only acquaintances at that time. Erin left Farmville to attend Graduate school for physical therapy at Elon University in NC. Once she earned her DPT in physical therapy, she returned to VA to work at a hospital in Lynchburg. Meanwhile Jimmy worked in construction and spent time building houses and pole barns, flipped and sold a house, and travelled on frequent mission trips to Lumberton, NC for disaster relief. Eventually Erin began to attend CCF again, where both she and Jimmy were involved in the young adult group "The Edge," and started seeing each other more often. Around this time Erin started volunteering at the Aloha House of Hope in Burkeville, VA, which was founded by Doug and Donna Spencer. Jimmy was also volunteering at the Aloha House of Hope, helping them build a home for foster-care children. Doug and Donna asked Jimmy and Erin separately if they were interested in the other. Neither Erin nor Jimmy had thought of the other as more than acquaintances, but soon they couldn't get each other off of their minds! Jimmy and Erin started talking more at church, and eventually Jimmy asked Erin out to lunch one afternoon after church on their first date.

Our Engagement

Erin and Jimmy have many shared interests: mission work, outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking and community sports, as well as spending time in the mountains and at the beach. In fact, they went on a beach trip in 2020 with their good friends Jackie and Isaac, who had planned the trip, in part, to "set up" Jimmy and Erin. While Jimmy was aware of the intentions of the trip, Erin learned months after they started dating that the beach trip was meant to spark interest between the two. Fast forward to May 2022. Jimmy drove to Virginia Beach to take Erin's parents to lunch and request their blessing to ask for Erin's hand in marriage. With her parents' blessing, Jimmy enlisted the help of Jackie and Isaac to plan a special proposal. The last weekend of May Jackie asked Erin and Jimmy to spend Saturday morning with her and her family on the High Bridge trail in Farmville, VA. Once on the actual High Bridge, Jackie asked Erin to take some pictures of her family due to this being their son's first time on the trail. Jackie then offered to take pictures of Erin and Jimmy "for memories." As they found a good place for a picture, Jimmy got down on one knee and proposed with a rose gold ring in a small wooden ring box handmade by his brother. Erin was completely surprised and in shock, and joyfully said YES! Erin and Jimmy have been excitedly wedding planning and are eager to build a life together that honors the Lord. God has blessed both Jimmy and Erin in countless ways throughout each of their lives. Now they look forward to participating in the plans God has for them together. Several Bible verses have been foundational to them throughout their missions work and dating relationship: Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Psalm 82:3 Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
