How We Met

Who said you can't find love in the Club?

Hers: It was Azlyn's (line sister) birthday at The Room in Hollywood. Demi and I pulled up already feeling good and walked in like we owned the place. We greeted Azlyn of course and then some how made friends and finessed free drinks. A little later into the night I was on my way back to the bar and found myself surrounded by a lot of tall people. My anxiety kicked in so I reached up and tapped the shoulder of this super tall man and asked if he was done so I could wiggle my way to the front. He turned around and looked as if he had a few choice words but politely said he was making his way out (s/o to best friend aka Tone). Jamal turns around and says " Damn you smell good!" All I could see was this big bright smile. I said "Thank you" followed by something sarcastic of course. A few more words were exchanged and He asked for my number. I gave it to him and proceeded to get my drink (No he didn't buy me one but it was his birthday too so he got a pass). Still one of my favorite nights to this day! His: So, it was my Birthday, my boys convinced me to go out and it was definitely worth it. The night started off with lots of drinks and laughs and that was just the pregame. The next thing I know I’m at a lounge and I’m following Tone to the bar for another round. While walking to the bar I couldn’t help but notice this sweet fragrance I couldn’t escape. I followed my nose and set my eyes on what was to be my future queen. Did I know from that moment? Maybe not, but I definitely knew after I complimented her on her scent and told her “You smell good” she replied with, “ that’s the point” and at that moment I knew that she could if not match at least come close to my sarcasm which is rare. I proceeded to take my phone out and when she took it and told me I wouldn’t be able to spell her name correctly I was really convinced. Who tells someone they just meet that they can’t spell right? Well she was right, I couldn’t . We exchanged numbers and the rest is the future.

How our love has grown

Shortly after we met Jamal asked me out on a first date. I suggested we go bowling so that we could actually interact and get to know each other. Plus a little friendly competition is always fun and we both are very competitive so it was perfect. He clearly didn't remember what I looked like the night we met and told me I'm prettier in person than on Instagram (gotta love his honesty). We played a few games and I was so charmed by his sense of humor, ability to carry a conversation (ladies you know this is hard to come by) and of course that smile and smooth chocolate skin! The night was great and followed by many more amazing dates and then on to trips! Our absolute favorite thing to do other than eat and chill is to travel. I took Jamal to Cancun, Mexico for his 30th birthday and we've been addicted to traveling ever since! Since then we've been to the amazing island of Jamaica, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam along with a few states. They say if you want to really get to know a person, travel with them. We have been through some things on our trips but thank God we come back alive! It's been a while since we've traveled so we seriously can't wait until the honeymoon! Anyway, life has been fairly adventurous, easy and fun since we found each other. He may be a little crazy, but he's crazy about me!

The Proposal

After trips back and forth to the jeweler and talks with family and friends, it was finally time to start planning that perfect moment. Immediately when I started thinking of what Taelour would want and things i've picked up through conversation I knew I had just the right time and place in mind. One of the things I admire about Taelour is that she is a huge family person and loves to involve them in her life, as do I. So knowing that I called my future mother-in-law and asked permission to crash her annual Friends-giving celebration with a proposal. To my delight she was ecstatic and more than happy to accommodate. With a venue in place and Mom on board I only had two more steps, receive permission from her Father and plan out my execution. First order of business, talk to Dad, so I called Mr. Brandon and invited him to lunch. We met on my lunch break the following day and once again to my relief he was just as ecstatic as Mom. I now had new confidence going into the situation knowing everyone was on board. Now for the actual proposal, not gonna lie I wasn't nervous at all, ok maybe a little bit, ok I was. The plan was for me to serenade Taelour with one of my famed karaoke performances but somehow I knew that wouldn't work. As the drinks flowed and the night went on it was too late to change plans, besides with the amount of people there I definitely needed a microphone. Here we go, was all I was thinking as I saw the karaoke machine come out and heard my name called. I grabbed the mic and while waiting for Jagged Edge to be cued up, my nerves starting to rise. Before the music could start, I announced that there would be no music and instead I wanted to tell everyone about my love for Taelour. I dropped to one knee and asked my queen to marry me. She said yes and corrected me by directing me to her left finger instead of the right. I win! We hugged and kissed and were immediately bombarded by the crowd of people waiting to congratulate us. Best night ever.
