Our matchmaker, in the practical sense, was Hinge: an online dating app popular among the introverted (James) and extroverted (Vin) alike, but we know that the Great Mystery is the one who intangibly united us. We both live and met in NYC—our current, and most likely, our long-term home. One February night, after virtually conversing over the course of a couple of weeks, we connected in person at a restaurant in Gowanus. Our eyes locked and stayed locked. Time stopped and conversation flowed. Smiles and touches were exchanged. Space and silences were shared. We knew. We simply knew. We became (Truly became. A simultaneous, spontaneous desire arose in each of us one Sunday morning to marry each other) engaged two weeks later—when you know, you know! It has taken many dates and relationships with others, a lot of self-exploration, healing, and slaying of dragons to be available to love and be loved the way this relationship invites us to do. We believe intimate relationships can be transformed into a tandem inner journey towards spiritual realization. We found each other because of our inner work and we are together and marrying each other because we are choosing to continue to awaken by way of our relationship, in a way that only being in relationship can do. On the lighter side, we are two sensitive, artistic souls who seek connection with the earth and the sacred in everyday life. We look for meaning and humor in the mundane. We are intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually curious. We are fun-loving and adventurous. We go to museums; we karaoke in private and in public, we play truth or dare on long walks through the city; we go ecstatic dancing late at night; we snuggle with our dog, Lily, in the middle of the day; we read books aloud to each other; we are constantly kissing, hugging, and touching; we play word games every night before bed; we scavenge our respective neighborhoods for the best coffee and croissants on our weekend mornings; and we eat dessert as often as possible. We love to dine out and cook together at home. We enjoy speaking to each other in our shared languages: silence, baby talk, and gibberish. As individuals, James loves to dance salsa and bachata and Vin loves to illustrate. James is a psychotherapist developing her own private practice and Vin is a civil engineer with an MBA with the hopes of pursuing more of his creative talents.
