We met at work and hit it off right away, becoming fast friends who bonded over our love of hiking. We hiked a couple of times together the following summer, but lost track of each other during the college school year. We reconnected in the summer of 2015 when we were both living in Burlington and everything changed. We were inseparable and we both knew right from start that this was going to be something special.
Our first hike together was to the top of Camel's Hump mountain in Vermont and it's been our anniversary date-hike every year since. We had been talking about getting married for some time, but we had not set a timeline. As soon as the weather and trails were nice enough for hiking, we planned our opening trip up "our" mountain. After taking a break to eat lunch at the top, we went to take a picture of the view, but instead of pulling out the camera he pulled out a little box and got down on one knee. Before he even finished his speech I was saying "Yes!" and a few other people on the mountain clapped for us. He had to repeat his speech to me on the way down the mountain because I hadn't heard a word he said the first time around!
