Our story begins in 2022, in the place that shaped so much of our lives—our church. Long before either of us said a word, Tatum had her eye on James from afar, admiring the way he carried himself, the warmth in how he served, and the kindness he showed everyone around him. What she didn’t know was that James had noticed her too—quietly, subtly, and much earlier than he let on. Even if we weren’t bold enough to say anything, the people around us definitely were. Our mentors started dropping hints—little comments here and there, talking each of us up to the other, clearly convinced we’d be perfect together. They encouraged us to “take a chance,” smile a bit more, linger a bit longer, and maybe stop pretending we weren’t already paying attention. As the hints grew, so did the courage. Conversations after church turned from quick hellos into long, easy talks. Group hangouts became the highlight of our weeks, and we kept finding ourselves side by side—by choice, not coincidence. What started with shy glances eventually became undeniable connection. It didn’t take long for the truth to settle in: we weren’t just good together—we felt meant for each other. Our shared values, our laughter, our faith, and the unmistakable peace we felt in each other’s presence built something real and lasting. Looking back, we smile knowing that while we each thought we were being subtle, God—and our mentors—had been nudging us toward each other all along.
