FAQs

Question

What is the closest airport?

Answer

Asheville Regional Airport 61 Terminal Drive #1 Fletcher, NC 28732

Question

How do we check in at Bear Lake Reserve upon arrival?

Answer

There is a guest cottage at the entrance of Bear Lake Reserve. The cottage is open from 0800 until 0000 (8:00am - 12:00am). If you are going to be arriving outside of those hours, please let us know so we can update the staff and get you your keys etc once you arrive.

Question

Are the roads to the venue and on Bear Lake Reserve safe?

Answer

Both Castle Ladyhawke and Bear Lake Reserve are within the Smokey Mountains. While they are paved, there are no guard rails or additional lighting along the roads. We will be offering a shuttle service for our guests on wedding day. The shuttle will pick you up from your rental on Bear Lake Reserve and will take you back when you are ready to leave the party.

Question

Is the Castle ADA compliant?

Answer

Castle Ladyhawke has many floors. There are ramps from the ground level to the main level (where restrooms are located). The Ceremony, Cocktail Hour and Reception are all on the ground level and wheelchair accessible.

Question

Will the Ceremony be inside or outside?

Answer

OUTSIDE! We will be getting married on the lawn overlooking the mountains. Please wear appropriate shoes for the occasion.

Question

Where do I find your wedding registry?

Answer

Nowhere. The gift to the happy couple is your attendance on wedding day.

Question

How far is the nearest grocery store/town?

Answer

Sylva is about 30 minutes from the venue/lodging. There are a number of grocery stores, restaurants and pharmacies should you need anything. The guest cottage on property does have a small amount of groceries and over the counter medicines.

Question

Are there lions or tigers or bears (oh my!)?

Answer

While there are no mountain lions, there are families of black bears. Please remember we are in their space and never to approach a bear, especially a mother and her cubs. Although the black bear is more docile, a mother will always defend her cubs. Every home/unit has bear safe garbage cans also. Never leave food in your vehicle, the bears will get it.
