Portland International Airport or also known as PDX is the major airport within city limits of Portland and is about 15-20 minutes away from downtown Portland (depending on traffic). It is a hub for Alaska Airlines, but is well serviced by major domestic airlines and some international carriers. It is generally recommended to fly from the SF Bay Area to Portland. However, if you're up for adventure and have the time, driving has its own rewards with beautiful landscapes, various points of interests, and other historical landmarks on both sides of the border. Driving from Walnut Creek, CA in to Portland, OR will take about 9.5 - 10 hours without stops, and not accounting for traffic or road conditions. You're looking at 11-12 hours of driving when you include bathroom breaks, meals and occasional picture taking along the way. It really depends on your time and patience on the road if you want to attempt to traverse the mostly straightforward drive north (and driving back south).
