If your GPS cannot find Homestead Trail, that’s ok! Once you come into Valdez (there’s only one road on), keep on going! You’re going to follow this road and only take one turn. Pretty easy, huh? Once you go under the Valdez arch sign, you’ll keep going down the road. You’ll see Wells Fargo down the road on your right hand side about .5 miles down from the arch. Keep going down the road! You’ll go around a bend about another .5 miles down the road. You will go over a bridge after the bend. Once you go over the bridge, you will take a left on Homestead Road. Drive about .2 miles down the road and you will see a sign off to the left for our wedding. There’s a parking lot you can park in. Walk down the trail (about a 10 minute walk). It will open up to the beach, and you’re there!
Just like going into town, there’s only 1 road out of town as well. If your GPS doesn’t find the Gold Fields, that’s ok! When going out of town, you’ll go about 2 miles and hit the Glacier Stream Bridge. Once you cross over the bridge, about .4 miles on the left is the KOA and on the right is the fields. You’ll see the tower and 4 fields.
We have sent out a details card in the wedding invitation. If you cannot find it, here’s the details! • Ceremony: - We will start the big day at Homestead Beach here in Valdez, Alaska. We ask our guests to come at 12:30pm. Please, have a seat wherever you’d like! We will have a guest book, so please feel free to sign that while you wait. The ceremony will begin at 1:30pm. After the ceremony we will cut our cake and play at the beach! There will be sand buckets and other things for kids to play with during the ceremony. • Reception: - After the ceremony, grab a set of clothes you don’t mind playing softball in! We’ll meet everyone at the Gold Fields out the road to play a game or two. This is where James and I first met and where we continue to play every summer, so it has a special place in our heart. Games will start at 4:00pm. Bring a dish to share! Bring your own drinks! We will BBQ after/during the games. • After the Reception: - We will be saying goodbye and thanking everyone for coming. Then, our wedding party will come back to our home for a nightcap.
Please, do not feel obligated to bring anything but yourself! But if you’re coming to the ball fields after the ceremony, please bring a dish to share, your own drinks, a mitt, bat, and shoes.
Absolutely!!! We will have coloring activities at the ball fields for the kids, as well as a softball set up for them. We will also have sand buckets and bubbles at the beach.
Please, dress as casual or as fancy as you want! We have no dress code. But we are crossing our fingers for sun! This beach does have sand, and a stream, so make sure the kiddos are dressed to get dirty and wet!
Valdez can have 4 seasons within an hour. We cannot guarantee sun, but during the month of July it can be upwards of 65 degrees.
We did send out RSVP cards within the invitations, but if you cannot find it, we do have an RSVP page on here. Deadline to RSVP is March 1st, 2024.
We will have disposable cameras at the wedding reception. You’re more than welcome to take photos at the wedding, but please, when the ceremony is going on, refrain from taking photos. We have hired a photographer.
Yes! We are registered and our registry is on our wedding page. If you’d like to get us something that’s not on our registry, please send it to: James and Meta Hughes P.O. Box 3072 Valdez, Alaska 99686
