In May 2019, I had just graduated the Academy and relocated to Los Angeles for work. I was still new to the area, and like any modern romance, I had matched with Meghan on Bumble. After a few messages, we went out for drinks at the Local Peasant, followed by some good people watching and karaoke at the Valley's finest watering hole; Paolis. The extensive travel requirements of my job kept me away from LA often, but each time I was home, Meghan and I would meet for another date. We casually dated with only a date or two every couple of weeks for almost 6 months, and it worked out for the both of us. We headed up to Santa Barbara one weekend and that's where our relationship really took off and became more serious. It wasn't until the pandemic that I was actually forced to stay home for an extended period of time. While the world was shutdown, I luckily was shut-in with Meghan for months on end, and was finally able to spend extended quality time with her. As our relationship grew, and we spent our quarantine together, I moved from Calabasas to Thousand Oaks to live closer. It wasn't too long after that we moved in together to our first home.
James took me on a trip to Whistler, Canada for my 30th birthday and he pulled out all the stops. On our first night, we went to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park where it was fully decorated with LED lights for the holidays. It was so magical. We got some spiked hot chocolate, took some cute pics and walked around the park in the rain. James kept wanting to go back to this one area. I could not understand why. It was wet and rainy, and I was just ready to go. On the way back, stopped to use the restroom and when I came out he was standing alone on a deck completely lit up with twinkle lights. As I was walking towards him, I thought to my self in that moment, how perfect he looked and how much I loved him. Little did I know he had set up a camera and was recoding the entire time. I walked over, we shared a kiss and that is when he popped the question. It couldn't have been more perfect and special. We celebrated that night with champagne, and continued our celebrations into the rest of our trip. We stayed at the Four Seasons, had my birthday dinner at Barefoot Bistro where James sabered champagne and we ate caviar. We rode the Peak to Peak Gondola, had lunch at Christine's on the top of the Whistler Mtn, spent an afternoon at the Scandinave Spa, and drank LOTS of champagne. It was truly a trip to remember and the best way to start our next chapter.
