It’s a classic take of love in the digital age. It all started on a slightly popular application called Instagram where James and Kristen harmlessly followed each other for nearly a year despite never exchanging a single word. Naturally, occasional photo ‘likes’ were their mode of communication. Meanwhile, Kristen kept finding herself conveniently “studying” in the common area at Bryant University where James took his breaks between night classes. Pure coincidence or clever scheduling? It’s still up for debate. Despite these near miss encounters, it was fateful night in March 2019 at a dark, local bar appropriately named “The Last Resort” in Smithfield, Rhode Island, where their paths finally crossed in real life. The scene was straight out of a rom-com: It was there, on a bustling dance floor, that their first true meeting took place. James, in his final 50 days of bachelorhood before graduating college, was out with his friends. Kristen, still a junior at the time, was also out with hers. As if orchestrated by the universe (or a particularly unprepared DJ), the music cut out leaving only the hum of bar chatter and the sound of chance. Standing back-to-back, they both turned around at the same moment, locking eyes. Who spoke first is still hotly debated, but the conversation hasn't stopped since. Weeks later Kristen would make the first (of many) trips down to James’ house in Greenwich where she would finally meet his family and work on important romantic tasks; like of course, assembling the concrete mixer- so James and his father could build a deck. During this critical task with James, one of his used tissues caused by his relentless Spring allergies ‘accidentally’ got swept into the wind and stuck onto Kristen's arm. Her calm reaction and chuckle along with her acute ability to lend a helping hand in the concrete mixer assembly sealed the deal for James that she was the one. From that fateful night at ‘The Last Resort’ onward, they were inseparable; despite the many times James was away for the Army. But long distance had nothing on them. By October 2019, they’d made it official, choosing the date of October 1st so James could easily remember (his logic of course, not hers). With Covid-19 ending all in-person college classes in early 2020 for Kristen, she naturally found herself spending longer and longer weekends in Greenwich while James worked his new corporate job. What began as weekend stays soon became full-time as their lives blended together. Fast forward to through multiple apartments, home purchases, DIY projects, travels and countless story filled adventures, the grand highlighting moment came on April 17th of 2024 when James ‘surprised’ Kristen with the most important question of his life on Lido Beach in Sarasota, Florida in front of a fading sunset. A rom-com dream come true. Now, they’re ready to make it official on November 1st, and they can’t wait to celebrate with you!
