Here are some of our favorite things to do in and around Petoskey, Michigan. If you’re spending a few extra days up north—or find yourself with a little free time during the wedding weekend—we hope you’ll explore and enjoy a few of the places we love most.
Spend the afternoon strolling through downtown Petoskey, filled with charming boutiques, local shops, and beautiful views of Little Traverse Bay. Our favorite coffee stop is North Perk (Holly and Hank approved — dogs welcome!). Grab some snacks from American Spoon and eat lunch in the park or take a scenic drive to one of the nearby wineries — our favorite is Boyne Valley Vineyards, known for its relaxed atmosphere, cozy campfires, and delicious wine. And for a truly special stop, visit the Petoskey Clock Tower — the very spot where James popped the question! 💍 If you’re looking for a unique place to unwind afterward, stop by Malted Vinyl. Enjoy a cocktail, spin a record, and soak in the cozy charm of downtown Petoskey. Before you leave downtown, grab a seat at Mitchell Street Pub — one of Hanna’s all-time favorites and the perfect spot for people-watching, great drinks, and classic pub food in the heart of town.
A short drive from Petoskey, Walloon Lake is a charming waterfront village that perfectly captures the relaxed beauty of Northern Michigan. Enjoy a lakeside dinner at the Walloon Lake Inn, an elegant restaurant with stunning views and incredible food — one of our favorite spots for a special evening. Spend some time exploring the local shops and cafés in the village, or simply take in the peaceful scenery along the lake. Ernest Hemingway spent many of his childhood summers here, and it’s easy to see why — the calm water, timeless charm, and small-town warmth make Walloon feel like something out of a storybook.
Just up the coast from Petoskey sits the charming town of Harbor Springs, known for its stunning harbor views, cozy restaurants, and classic Northern Michigan feel. Stroll along the waterfront and stop by The Pier, where we had dinner the night of our engagement — a memory we’ll always treasure. A little further inland, you’ll find Pond Hill Farm, a local favorite offering wine tasting, cider, farm animals, and beautiful views — perfect for an afternoon outing. For something a bit more intimate, visit The Otis Lounge, a cozy cocktail bar known for its fireside drinks and relaxed atmosphere. And don’t miss the Tunnel of Trees (M-119) — one of Michigan’s most scenic drives. It winds along the lake with breathtaking views and is especially beautiful at sunset.
