Travel Note
For the Wedding: We recommend staying within a 30 minute drive of the Wilton Castle. Driving down the narrow country Irish roads can add quite a bit of travel time to the estimate on Google / Apple Maps. Passport Validity: Ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your stay in Ireland. Visa Requirements: U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days in Ireland. Traveling to Northern Ireland: If you plan to visit Northern Ireland (part of the UK), starting from April 2025, non-resident U.S. citizens will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before traveling. Driving License: A valid U.S. driver's license is generally accepted for car rentals in Ireland. However, some rental companies may require an International Driving Permit (IDP), so it's advisable to check with your chosen provider. Electrical Outlets: Ireland uses Type G electrical outlets. Consider bringing a suitable power adapter. Currency: The currency in Ireland is the Euro (€). We were able to use our credit cards most places, and they will ask at time of payment if you want to pay in Euros (€) or US Dollars $- Usually, it's best to choose Euros, because your bank will give you a better conversion rate than if you choose US $. We do recommend keeping some cash on hand in case you stumble upon an art market or something unexpected! Weather: October weather can be unpredictable. We recommend packing layers and waterproof attire. It can also be windy, especially on the coast! A waterproof windbreaker with a hood is a great option to throw over a sweater :)
Flight
We recommend flying into Dublin Airport (DUB), the closest major international airport, approximately 1.5–2 hours by car from the venue.
Rental Car
Renting a car is the most convenient way to navigate Ireland, especially if you're staying outside major cities. We suggest booking in advance with providers at Dublin Airport such as Sixt, Hertz, or Enterprise. We used Sixt last time, and they were awesome. Please note: Ireland drives on the left side of the road. Also, unless you're experienced and very comfortable driving a manual / stick shift, make sure you choose an automatic!
