James first saw Chandler after a night out with his besties. Chandler had just moved to Seattle and was outside his apartment complex enjoying the fall breeze. If you know James, you know he doesn’t miss a chance to introduce himself. He welcomed Chandler to the building, then went upstairs to grab Abbott for his evening walk. When James came back down, Chandler was still there. After a quick chat, James walked Abbott around the block, and sure enough when he returned, Chandler was still outside. Over the next few weeks, there were plenty of “chance encounters” and casual bump-ins. Finally, on a random Thursday night in October, James asked for Chandler’s number and invited him to dinner. They went out for Thai food at Bang Bar in West Seattle. The conversation flowed, the vibe was right, and afterward James drove Chandler out to Alki Beach to take in the view of downtown Seattle. It was there Chandler admitted he was having a great time but wasn’t looking for anything serious. James understood, knowing how hard it can be to settle into a new city. He agreed to be “just friends.” That lasted about three days. Three months later, they were living together. (James likes to joke they “moved at the speed of lesbians.”) Fast forward to Memorial Day 2024: sitting on their patio, James looked at Chandler and said, “I can’t imagine my life without you. Will you marry me?” Chandler said yes. No ring, no grand plan—just the right moment. And now here we are, planning our wedding.
