Things To Do

Catie moved to Richmond for college in 2007 and James moved here for work in 2014. Over those years, Richmond became our home. We've walked nearly every street, sidewalk, and alleyway in the city. We'd love to share some of our favorite spots with you all. We've highlighted many of our recommendations by neighborhood below. We encourage you all to get out and explore everything we love about Richmond!

Downtown Richmond

S 7th Street, Richmond, VA

The James River runs right along the city, allowing for some great outdoor activities. We recommend checking out the Canal Walk, Pipeline Trail, Brown's Island, or Belle Isle. Also, check out the T. Tyler Potterfield Bridge - where James proposed to Catie! She said yes (and James did not drop the ring into the river)!

The Fan

Hanover Ave and Shields Ave, Richmond, 23220

Our favorite neighborhood! The Fan has SO much to offer. We highly recommend strolling through The Fan and looking at the colorful row homes - especially around Halloween. Our old street, Hanover Avenue, is known for it's elaborate Halloween decorations. We love grabbing sandwiches at Garnett's, having comfort food at Joe's Inn, or grabbing a pizza at 8 1/2 and eating in Scuffletown Park. If you're in the mood for a sub, check out Stanley's. If you want great oysters, try Beaucoup (especially for Happy Hour)!

Carytown

W Cary and Sheppard St, Richmond, VA

Carytown is about a mile-long stretch of West Cary Street that has many shops, boutiques, and restaurants. We love spending afternoons walking around Carytown, stopping into some stores and grabbing a bite to eat. Some of our favorite stores are: Plan 9 Records, Mongrel, Lineage, and Brick & Mortar. We love eating at Chewy's Bagels, Zorch Pizza, or grabbing a drink at Can Can Brasserie or The Jasper!

Scott's Addition

W Leigh St and Highpoint Ave, Richmond, VA

Scott's Addition is a neighborhood known for its breweries and restaurants. We love having a beer at Vasen, Ardent, or Star Hill. For food options, you can't go wrong with ZZQ Texas Barbeque (get there early before they sell out for the day)!

Church Hill

25th and Broad, Richmond, VA

Church Hill is rich in history. Check out St. John's Church or The Poe Museum, grab something to eat at Proper Pie Co., and walk over to Libby Hill Park to get a great view of the skyline and the river!

VIRGINIA MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

200 North Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220

The VMFA is one of our favorite places to visit. The museum itself is free to enter (with paid special exhibits). Walk around the museum, grab a coffee and a snack in the cafe, or sit outside and explore the sculpture garden.

RVA TukTuk Tours

Don't feel like walking? Take a TukTuk tour around the city! They offer many different types of tours, from sightseeing to food/drink to even ghost tours! There's definitely something for everyone.
