As skeptical as I was of finding love online, I decided to give it a try and signed up for Match.com in February 2017. Scrolling through the profiles I thought I might be looking at an inmate lineup and it wasn't until I received a message from James that there was a spark of hope. He paid close attention to detail, wrote eloquently and could use good grammar. I was instantly intrigued and remember telling Maureen and Mamaw about him that night at Mamaw's birthday party. We wrote back and forth and realized we had a lot in common and were both shocked to realize that neither of us had been married or had children. James asked me out to dinner and a couple days before our date I was at the hospital with a friend and he let me know he was working and wanted to know if I wanted to have lunch. I told him I was a bit unprepared since I had stayed the night at the hospital with my friend the night before and hadn't been home to shower. He told me he would still like to see me so I met him in the cafeteria. I was nervous and excited all at once and impressed with how he was such a gentleman (Thanks Anne). After lunch he said that he would still like to take me to dinner for our scheduled date and I agreed. We went to Asian Station for dinner on 03/15/17 and spent over 3 hours talking and laughing together. It was wonderful how comfortable we were with each other and we have been basically inseparable ever since. I would have never thought I would find the love of my life on Match.com. I thank God everyday for leading me to James and the endless blessings he brings to our lives. He's my happily ever after!
Our three year anniversary was coming up and James and I were planning on going to Durango to spend the weekend together. As the trip got closer, we realized that we were going to have to cancel trip due to COVID. We decided we would just enjoy the weekend at home. My Dad and Maureen had called to ask if we would like to have dinner that Friday, 03/20/2020, and I told them that would be great since we would be staying in town. They made spaghetti since it's one of my favorites with yummy salad, garlic bread and specialty martinis. We enjoyed dinner and then went out to sit by the fire pit and enjoy time together. As the evening progressed my brother Rick and his family video chatted my dad (which I thought was weird since it was late) and my mom was there too. James turned towards me and started talking about how much I had changed his life. He then got down on one knee, opened a ring box revealing the most beautiful ring and asked me to be his wife. I of course said YES!!! It was so thoughtful of him to plan it to where my family could be involved and share such a special experience with us. I am thrilled to be Future Mrs. Varner.
