Things to Do

The Wedding Website of Alicia Finch and James Cresswell
We're so excited to be in Portugal with all our closest friends and family. We've listed some recommendations from our last trip to Lisbon, and have provided some information on what to expect from Sintra and Cascais which we will be visiting for the first time in July!

Lisbon

Explore the capital!

Neighbourhoods: • Alfama - beautiful, historic neighbourhood with narrow streets and colourful buildings. Fairly touristy, steep hills when walking to/from this area • Baixa/Chiado - central neighbourhood with great transport links and shopping; expect lots of crowds and tourists • Bairro Alto - best for nightlife, great restaurants and shopping; also quite central Things to do in Lisbon: • Visit Castelo de S. Jorge, an 11th Century hilltop castle with amazing views of Lisbon. Buy tickets online to skip the queue • Rent bikes and cycle along the waterfront to Belem Castle (very long line to get in but also nice to see from the outside) • Visit the many viewpoints around the city • Explore the different charming neighbourhoods • Ride the famous Tram 28 through the cities historic neighbourhoods Where to eat in Lisbon: • Pasteis de Belem - best pastel de nata in Lisbon • Lisboa Tu e Eu 2 - great place to try a range of local seafood • The Bifanas of Afonso - best bifanas (pork sandwich) in Lisbon. Extremely cheap and always a long line • Rosamar - upscale, modern, Portuguese fusion food. Reservation needed • Taberna Sal Grosso Alfama - traditional local food. Reservation needed Where to drink in Lisbon: • Imprensa Cocktail and Oyster Bar - amazing cocktails, great oysters, fun local spot • Casa Independente - old mansion converted into a bar with DJs • Tejo Bar - live music bar • Este Bar - fun local bar

Sintra

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Sintra is a charming little town on the edge of The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. It's known for its colorful palaces, historic castles, picturesque town centre, hiking and stunning views. We can't wait to spend a few days exploring the castles, hiking and eating at the cafes throughout the town.

Cascais

Quaint Beach Town

Cascais is a popular beach town just outside of Lisbon. Formerly a sleepy fishing village, it's now a popular retreat known for it's beautiful beaches. After the wedding, we're looking forward to relaxing (recovering) in Cascais, spending our days at the beach, cycling around town and eating at some of the many seafood restaurants.

Porto

Portugal's second largest city

Porto is renowned for its rich history, stunning architecture and vibrant culture. Nestled along the Douro River, this city is famous for its port wine, picturesque streets and the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge.

Douro Valley

Famous Wine Region

The Douro Valley is known for its stunning scenery of terraced vineyards along the Douro River, its rich history of winemaking and the opportunity to experience unique wine tastings and tours in a picturesque landscape that is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Algarve

Portugal's Southern Beaches

The Algarve region, at the southern end of Portugal, is famous for its amazing coastline, beautiful beaches, picturesque villages and seafood.
