How We Met

We met in a way that still feels a little unbelievable. One night, we both ended up at a bar despite the fact that one of us almost didn’t go. Being tired and rarely going out, staying home seemed like the better option, but a last-minute decision changed everything. We talked, laughed, shared a couple of drinks, and eventually said goodbye, not knowing that this was only the beginning. We knew we had a mutual friend, Melissa, who was there that night, and a few days later without knowing the other felt the same way, we both told her we were interested. Melissa quickly took matters into her own hands and invited us to hang out at one of our houses without revealing it was a setup. After that hangout, she gave us each other’s numbers, and we spent the next few weeks texting nonstop and getting to know each other. Our first official date was ice cream, and about a month later, we made it official. As we spent more time together, we kept discovering just how intertwined our lives had been long before that night. Years earlier, we had actually gone out for ice cream together with Melissa, purely as a group hangout with no ulterior motive. Even more surprising, we’ve lived on the same street, about fifteen houses apart, since elementary school. One of us was a grade ahead of the other, and in high school, we even tutored elementary students together yet somehow never spoke. Looking back, it feels like our paths crossed countless times before the timing was finally right. What started as a night that almost didn’t happen turned into the greatest love story we could have imagined, and we’re so grateful that fate and a little help from Melissa brought us together.
