It was a magical summer evening in NYC. As a young tenderoni patron of the Copacabana Night Club, accompanied by a dear friend, love was not what I was in search of that night. Much to my surprise, toward the end of the night, I felt a presence. I then looked to my right and saw this (at the time) thin white man with an oversized hat staring at me about 20 feet away. Although alarming at first, there was something intriguing about this man. He approached me with h smile and introduced himself. The rest was history.

I just finished my second season of underwhelming performances in NYC's largest gay volleyball league. Every year, they have an End of the Season party at the Copacabana Nightclub. It was a rainy, cold May night (Jamell will tell you it wasn't raining but it was definitely raining) and I was feeling my oats in my new Black Hat. The club was unlimited food and drinks and you know we were having a good time. Though the league was over 1000 gay men, you knew if someone was not on the team. Across the room, I saw a striking young man surrounded by numerous suitors all trying to get his attention. I made my move. I was rejected at first (but leave it to Jamell to remind me of this), but I'm happy I tried for a second time. We ended up talking and the rest was history.

There's one thing we can agree on: the following years were truly an adventure. We both saw things that we would have never imagined and traveled to places we had never been before. Our friends became each other's friends and our family became one. We both gained two new parents, a plethora of new friends, 4 too many apartments than we wanted, and way too many memories to count. From Harlem to the Bronx to Austin to San Antonio, we've learned to love and support in ways we could have never previously imagined. We are grateful for all of those who have stuck by our sides these past years and will continue to celebrate life's most special moments in the future. Though our stories slightly differ, we are grateful to have met when neither of us would have imagined finding true love.
