Evony and J.R. (Jamail) do not have the typical “met in college” or “through a mutual friend” love story. Surprisingly, they met through one of the new “normal” ways of dating – a dating app. In December 2017, J.R. and Evony both swiped right and that is when their love story began. J.R. had a humorous bio which was all that Evony needed to see to grab her attention. Evony had in her bio that she was seeking someone who matched her humor, little did she know that she had just met her match, as most will tell you they are the same person. The conversation quickly moved from the app to phone in the same day, and the rest is history. A month after J.R. and Evony matched, Evony moved to California which most would’ve assumed that would cause a strain in getting to know each other. However, the saying “distance makes the heart grow fonder” found itself to be true in their relationship. J.R. would send random things that Evony like to her apartment each week, just to let her know he was thinking about her. Sometimes it would be food or a gift card or flowers (which we know she loves all). Although they couldn’t physically see each other, J.R. wanted to let Evony know that he was “The Only One”. After a few months of really getting to know each other, J.R. and Evony traveled across the country for months, seeing each other still building their bond until they made things official at the end of 2018.

Three years later, J.R. came to Evony that he wanted to have a big 35th birthday celebration for himself but wanted Evony to plan it. Evony was excited and began working out the details such as color scheme, food, guest list, etc. which J.R. just agreed with everything she said. At the time she didn’t understand why J.R. didn’t disagree with any of her ideas. She later learned on December 11, 2021, it was all because he knew that if she planned the proposal, she would love it being that it was all her ideas. Evony walked into the venue that she selected as J.R.’s cousin began singing “Love” by Musiq Soulchild. She quickly gazed over to see the “Marry Me” sign (that she didn’t not book in the event plans) as JR got on one knee with all her family and friends in attendance.
