The official currency in Jamaica is the Jamaican Dollar. However, all resorts (including Rockhouse) and key tourist areas use US Dollars. Credit and debit cards are also accepted in major tourist areas, and you can withdraw Jamaican Dollars from ATMs as needed. The Jamaican Dollar uses the same symbol as the US Dollar... $. Sometimes it is written as J$, but not always. So be careful! Insist on knowing whether the price is quoted in Jamaican or US dollars.
December is the start of the dry season in Jamaica. Being just after hurricane season, rain storms are possible but often come and go quickly. It is also when the island's already beautiful weather (ranging from mid-70s to the high 80s all year-round) is the most pleasant. Daily high temperatures are around 83°F, rarely falling below 80°F or exceeding 86°F. Daily low temperatures are around 76°F, rarely falling below 73°F or exceeding 80°F. Pack and dress accordingly! And don't forget your swimwear!!
