We met in June 2015 in Houston, TX. For our first date, we talked over margaritas and enchiladas and went salsa dancing at the Houston Aquarium. We learned a couple things about each other on that date. Jamaal was quite the ballroom dancing expert, and Victoria still had a lot to learn about how to follow in a dance. We had great chemistry and really enjoyed each other's company. We went on a couple more dates that summer before Victoria went back to North Carolina for her senior year of college. We spent our first year as a couple in different states and came to understand the phrase "distance makes the heart grow fonder". Now, five years later we're so excited to finally be walking down the aisle and we look forward to being dance partners for life!
The weekend after Valentine's Day 2019, we planned to meet up with our friends at Auditorium Shores Park for a day out. The day would start with us taking pictures of our friends in a cute spot in the park as one of our friends was celebrating her graduation from pharmacy school. Victoria suspected the friends could be getting engaged during this photo session and that her and Jamaal were there to help document the occasion. However, she didn't even consider her and Jamaal would get engaged that weekend since he had said in the past that he wanted our engagement to be a complete surprise, so he wouldn't propose around a major holiday. When we got to Auditorium Shores we walked up to Doug Sahm Hill Summit to meet up with our friends. We snapped a few photos of them before they urged us to get in front of the camera and take advantage of the picturesque spot with the Austin Skyline in the background. Little did Victoria know, Jamaal had planned a surprise proposal and the time had come to pop the question. We posed for a few photos before one friend pointed out a cute dog behind us. Victoria turned around to see the puppy and when she turned back around Jamaal was down on one knee with a beautiful ring in his hands. Jamaal proposed to Victoria, asking her to be his life partner for the rest of their days. Shock, excitement, and tears of joy came over Victoria's face as she said yes! Once the shock subsided we celebrated with our friends by popping a bottle of champagne and toasted to our future together!
