We met when we were just 11 years old, in 6th grade, and from that moment, our friendship blossomed into something deeper over the years. What started as a simple schoolyard crush—visiting each other's churches, spending time with our families, and supporting one another through life—grew into a bond that couldn’t be broken. We often tell the story of how Jamaal arrived late to Ashawntia's 13th birthday party, and when he finally pulled up, all of our friends eagerly ran up the hill to greet him. But Ashawntia stayed put, and when someone asked why, she simply said, “I don’t have to run. He came to see me.” That moment, so small yet so telling, encapsulates the essence of our relationship: a love that’s been there through all of life’s chapters. From middle school to high school, college, moving away and back again, family reunions, class reunions and countless memories—we’ve had our fair share of highs and lows. If we tried to share all of our stories, you’d be reading for days. But through it all, we’ve seen how God has worked in our lives, answering prayers and guiding us toward this moment. Now, at 28, we stand here ready to begin our next chapter together, knowing that His hand has been on us every step of the way.
