Once upon a time in the summer of 2021, Jaleon—the fun police—and Julia—the fun-lover—were tasked with leading a team of summer staffers for Centrikid Camps as Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director, respectively. Two eager, hardworking, driven (and, some might say, strong-willed) leaders were off on one unlikely adventure. If you had told either of them that summer that they would one day marry each other, both would have laughed hysterically. After that summer, Jaleon and Julia stayed in touch and, over time, built a deep friendship. Their bi-weekly post-camp calls soon turned into daily FaceTimes—catching up on the woes of the world that Jaleon was certain he could solve, followed by Julia outlining her plans for her next trip. Fast forward a few years (and a gentle—but memorable—letdown from Julia later) to the summer of 2024. As they wrapped up the summer leading their own teams, Julia reached out to Jaleon to share that she would love to explore a relationship together. Jaleon thanked her for letting him know… and promptly hung up the phone, (he was so shocked) only to spend the next week serving at a beautiful, but very weakly signaled, camp location in Mississippi. That August, Jaleon asked Julia to meet him in Bowling Green for their first date: a night that included a trip to Half Price Books, ice cream at Chaney's Dairy Barn, and dinner at Montana Grille. Then, on the twenty-first night of September 2024—Jaleon asked Julia to be his girlfriend. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, Jaleon planned a beautiful proposal on the back porch of Julia’s grandparents’ home, and she said yes. Together, they are deeply grateful to God for His faithful hand in every chapter of their story, and they are filled with joy as they begin building a life together.
