Tess had plans to work in service in Omaha with Lauren Gucwa. There were only 5 that met, and Jakob had them all pile into his car. It was a cold, snowy day so they wrote letters at Stories Coffee Co. Tess and Jakob sat across from each other and talked about all sort of topics from handwriting, to board games, and books. Tess had challenged Jakob to surprise her for the proposal, because she was not easily surprised. He took it seriously. Jakob planned with Bowen Christiansen and Lauren Gucwa to make a fake service day. Lydia and Ethan Hembree were also involved in the scheme. Lydia and Ethan were supposed to be in town that weekend, and had planned a volleyball game and family dinner to throw Tess off. Out in service that morning, they had made a few return visits and Jakob said he had to gather his thoughts before his “call”. Jakob pulled into a recreation area off the Platte River and Bowen jumped out of the car and motioned for everyone to come see the view. Approaching the riverbank they noticed a pile of gourds and roses inexplicably washed ashore. Tess picked up the roses and started plucking the petals, unaware that anything was going to happen. Bowen and Lauren disappeared and Jakob went over to Tess and put his arm around her. He started talking, referencing a few moments from earlier in their relationship... before getting on his knee and asking Tess to marry him. She was so surprised that all she could do was nod yes, Jakob had successfully surprised her. When Tess turned around, Lydia and Ethan were there taking photos. Everyone made it such a special day.
