Our "first look" was nothing too extravagant. It was a brisk November night when our mutual friends decided to plan a night at the Der Rathskeller restaurant in one of the students Unions here on campus. This location is otherwise known as "The Terrace." On that night, Jakob was sitting by the last empty seat when I arrived after everyone else (I know, what a big surprise that I was late). Naturally, I took the only remaining seat and struck up conversation between Jakob and I. The conversation we had was natural and comfortable ranging anywhere from our home roots to the classes we were taking. However, we were interested in each other right away. From that point forward, we became the group jokesters as we picked and prodded at each other to the hilarity of our friends. After that day of meeting, the rest is history!
It was a bright and sunny Atlanta day. Jakob's sister, Anna, graduated from high school that morning. We headed to Piedmont Park that afternoon to "take graduation pictures." Or so I thought... Anna's friend, SV, is a photographer and met us at the park to take Anna's pictures. Once we met up with Jakob's parents and SV, we headed over to an area of the park by a lake that had the Atlanta skyline reflecting off the water. SV started taking pictures of Anna, then Anna and Jakob, and then Anna and I. I seriously thought we were there just for graduation pictures! Then, Jakob said to me, "Hey let's get a couple pictures together while we're here." We started taking a some together then SV said to me, "Wait let me fix your hair." Little did I know, this was Jakob's cue! As she was messing with my hair, Jakob stepped behind me. All of a sudden he said my name, I turned around, and he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. I was in complete shock! It was the best day of our lives so far and we absolutely cannot wait for the wedding day and forever together!
