Our Story

Since February 15th, 2020

When we met, it didn’t feel like the first time. It felt like we were finally finding each other. Within days of meeting as college interns, Jakob started telling friends about his “work wife.” Neither he or Sabrina knew how prescient that nickname would be. But we both felt a spark as we first worked together, on something as silly as building cheap desks for our internship’s new office. There’s a moment on our first date where our conversation turned and became truly intimate. We like to say that this same conversation has continued, without stopping, for almost seven years now. We also both like to say it’s the moment we began falling in love. On that first date, we talked and walked through a local farmers market in the park. We held hands for the first time while sitting on a bench and staring out at the pond. Five years later, Jakob surprised Sabrina by proposing at the same park, next to the same bench and pond. When our relationship began as two young people approaching the end of college, we were individually in periods of transition and upheaval. A few weeks passed and it was March 2020, and the entire world entered a period of transition and upheaval. We didn’t know it at the time, but it was the perfect excuse to spend hours and hours ‘stuck’ at home, getting to know each other and falling more and more in love every day. Since then we’ve weathered a few storms. Literally, like when a winter storm froze all of Texas the same week we were moving into our first apartment together. And years later, when we moved across the country to live and work in Washington DC. Through it all, we’ve never stopped the conversation that began all those years ago, and we’ve never lost that spark.
