How We Met

Was it fate or luck...

Jake and Niki met on a dating app called Bumble. Yup, just your typical millennials! The app matched people based on interests and location. Meaning you couldn't meet someone 100 miles away, unless they were also interested in dating long distance. Niki and Jake weren't. One evening, while out for dinner in Green Bay, Niki decided to peruse the dating site. A guy she hadn't seen before popped up. Cute, charming, funny....oh, but wait, he really liked to hunt and fish. Hmmmm... Animal lover that Niki is, one might guess she'd ditch the deer hunter. But nope! She swiped right. Lucky Jake! Though Jake lived near Madison, he was hunting in Door County the same week. It was as if fate brought them near each other at the same time. Even though he was busy scoping for a big buck, he knew he had a better prize right there on his phone. He also swiped right! Lucky Niki! During the week Jake hunted, the two couldn't stop talking. They never ran out of things to say or ways to entertain eachother. They decided to meet as Jake passed through Oshkosh on his way home from Door County. The couple lived an hour and a half away from each other, so planning a full fledged first date was not practical. Both knew it was now or never. And let me tell you, the first "date" was one for the books! On the night of November 11th, Niki was home awaiting the mysterious Jake. She had deep cleaned her apartment, ran Jake's background (he was a stranger after all), and was all fixed up and ready to go. At the specified time, the doorbell rang and in walks.....Lumberjack Jake! Flannel jacket, bushy beard and hadn't showered in a week. Hoowee! Jake was not exactly first date fresh. He came strutting in and before a how-do-ya-do, asked to take a shower and do some laundry. Memorable indeed! But from that moment, neither has stopped smiling.

The Proposal

Jake and Niki dated long distance for awhile, but the travelling became stressful and frustrating. With a three hour round trip and opposite schedules, they both knew it was either time to move on or move forward. Lucky for them, they were both on the same page! Having similar goals, beliefs and plans for the future, it was a no-brainer. God had brought them together at the perfect moment in their lives. After lots of discussion and planning, the couple determined Jake would move to Oshkosh. They were thrilled to maintain a full-fledged, committed relationship. Things were going so well, they weren't sure what could make it any better... Then, one sunny afternoon on September 6th, Jake took Niki for a hike on Terrell Island. There, as the sun was setting and the water was glistening, Jake got down on one knee and asked Niki to marry him. She said yes!

The Wedding

After months of planning their perfect wedding, the couple was forced to postpone the ceremony and reception due to a virus outbreak (we will not use the C-word here). However, with the help of some crafty family members, they will now have a virtual ceremony! Please ask Niki to join the Facebook Group if you’d like access to watch the nuptials streaming in live time.
