Our story began when I was 13, I already knew, after only a year of even knowing him, that I liked him. I was obsessed with him to the point where my diary entries typically started with the cringiest “he said…!”s ever, and yet, I’d ignore him like the black plague. When COVID-19 shut the rest of the world down, and ended a “normal” high school experience for most, it opened up the most amazing part of the beginning of our lives. April 9th, the Thursday before Easter, I got a note on my desk, which wasn’t unusual since me and my friend were writing each other pretty frequently. What I hadn’t realized was this would be the most important letter I’d ever received. Once I opened it, though it only read 9 words, I realized that the guy I’d been in total adoration of for 2 years “liked” me back! Literally shaking in excitement, I left school that day in our 10 person group just thinking of what I could say back. This started twelve letters that would begin the best 4 years I would ever have; dating the most patient, compassionate man I’ve ever met. In those letters, which we both will cherish for the rest of our lives, we said (wrote, since it took us TWO YEARS after this to say out loud), “I love you” for the first time. I already, prematurely, I might add, imagined marrying this man through just these letters. Now, I FINALLY get to walk down the aisle to him, as I had envisioned all that time.
