Jake had planned a ski trip to the Dolomites to propose. Unfortunately Megan spoiled his plans by tearing her ACL. As Megan regained mobility, Jake booked a last minute trip to Jackson Hole. They experienced low visibility all weekend until Monday afternoon when Jake took Megan to a viewpoint of the Grand Tetons to propose.

In 2008, Megan was enrolled at Aspire, the same gymnastics club Jake was training at. There were limited interactions at practice which mostly included fighting over chalk buckets or small talk between turns, resulting in scoldings from Coach Rob. Later, Megan and Jake became closer while coaching birthday parties together and hanging out with mutual friends. In 2018, Jake and Megan started dating.
