The Wedding Website of Lily SlatonBarker and Jake Wong
We are SO very excited to celebrate with you in person, or via the livestream link! We know everyone wants to attend (well... maybe not in the deep dark Alaskan Winter 😉), and we are realistic about the challenges of traveling to Alaska in the winter right before Christmas. The time of year, location, and venue size are all reasons we've chosen a small, intimate guest list, while also providing a livestream link to include all beloved friends and family. We hope you will celebrate with us, in any way you can, and we do understand if the travel, expense, and time commitment is more than the season can hold. We would love your presence on the livestream if you can make it.

Travel Note

Information for In-Person Attendees

Because some of you have never traveled to Alaska, and most of you aren’t familiar with the local area, we wanted to provide some travel notes to help you plan. The remainder of this page is dedicated to this information.

Travel Note

Bluewater Base Camp Guests

Staying at BlueWater BaseCamp means you’ll need a trip to the grocery store to get supplies for your own breakfast and lunch (cabins have little kitchens), as there are no meal services or food on site except for food-related wedding activities as noted on the Schedule page. We will be providing limited snacks throughout the wedding day, and Bluewater provides a day supply of tea/coffee and instant oatmeal. We will be providing limited snacks during the photoshoot the day of the wedding. The venue is 10 miles up a winding road, away from services of any kind.

LOCATION INFORMATION AND LODGING OPTIONS

IMPORTANT: Please click the link below to view our comprehensive travel document, prepared last Fall. It gives a geographical orientation and includes a list of potential lodging options (AirBnB/VRBO, hotel) in areas where you might want to stay (Anchorage, Eagle River, near the Wedding Venue, or near Wasilla). It sorts options by price and provides links to assist you in planning your length of stay and booking your lodging. We cannot promise total accuracy of links/availability, as this is meant as a jumping off point to provide ideas and options.

Flight

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

This is Anchorage's major airport and the best way to fly in. The airport is located about 30 minutes outside of Eagle River (Lily's hometown) and about 50+ minutes from the wedding venue.

Travel Note

Winter Driving Conditions and Rental Cars

Alaska winter driving conditions vary from day to day, hour by hour. Most driving is highway driving, on well-maintained city roads. However, winter driving can be impossible to predict. YOU WILL NEED a rental car with AWD, AND STUDDED TIRES to be safe in the variable road conditions. While most rental car companies in Alaska provide All Wheel Drive vehicles, it is best to verify when booking that you will not be placed in a small, FWD sedan. The venue, as well as the SlatonBarker home, is located up a mountain road that strongly recommends AWD. For the best experience, we recommend booking through Turo and looking for a vehicle option that provides AWD with winter studded tires or Blizzak/Michelin X-Ice tires. Please let us know if you have any questions!
