HOW WE MET

10.07.2017

Jake's Side: In August of 2011 I attended my very first class at UT, Technical Drawing. About 10 minutes into the class, I met Kurt, my first college friend. Little did I know it at the time, but this was the event that was going to start a chain reaction. After graduating from college, I had the honor of being one of the groomsmen for Kurt. While at his and Emily’s wedding, I saw this gorgeous blonde girl in a red dress sitting at a table to the left of the dance floor. She truly was intimidating, but the DJ called out for all the groomsmen to grab someone and come out to the dance floor…what the perfect excuse to shoot my shot! Unfortunately, someone managed to ask her first (can’t blame him)! I knew that after this dance I had to find my chance to talk to her. A song or two and an adult beverage later, I finally worked up the courage to ask her what her name was and to dance…thank God she said yes! Kylie and I danced for a few songs and chatted about just about everything, we definitely hit it off well. Matter of fact, we may have hit it off too well as I may have given her a small peck on the lips before we parted from the dance floor that night. Kylie's Side: Jake and I first met at Emily and Kurt Jackisch's wedding (thanks guys!!). We were the only single friends at the wedding and everyone was saying, "Jake and Kylie have to dance at the wedding!" and I was not having it. I don't like being told what to do. Surprising, right?! So after we danced, I thought, "Well, I'll never see this guy again." And for a little while, I didn't. But then he just started popping up everywhere, asking me for coffee or to go to Toledo Walleye games with him, to which I always was "too busy" to go. Finally after a year of this and seeing him at parties and bonfires, I agreed to go on a date with him to hopefully shut him up. But once I did, I could finally see that he was a great guy and that he really cared about me. Since then, we've been inseparable!

THE PROPOSAL

11.13.2020

In October of 2020, we were supposed to take a trip to England so that Kylie could show Jake her favorite country and to meet a lot of the Gyurgyak family, but the Coronavirus halted that. Little did Kylie know that Jake had planned to propose across the pond. Jake knew that this would mean a lot to Kylie so since he was unable to give Kylie her European proposal, he did the next best thing- Frankenmuth! Kylie and Jake spend a chilly November day up north looking at Christmas decorations and Bavarian-style architecture. Finally, Jake found a local pasty shop (Cornish Pasty: a British baked pastry traditionally filled with beef skirt, potato, swede and onion and Kylie's favorite food!) and $60 worth of frozen pasties later, we were ready to head home- or so Kylie thought. Right outside the pasty shop, there was a beautiful spot overlooking a covered bridge where Jake asked Kylie to be his wife.
