The two first met at St. James Hospital. Jonna was working on the 5th floor, and Jake was beginning his last clinical rotation before beginning his first job in the outpatient clinic. Jake bravely offered to assist Jonna with a patient but soon realized that inpatient care wasn't for him. Jonna also noticed this and sent Jake to the medication room on a mission to find specific items, which was just a clever ruse to get him out of the patient's room. Jake frequently found himself assigned to Jonna's patients, and it wasn't long before the two of them developed a close friendship. After dropping hints and failed attempts at bonding over golf, Jonna eventually took charge and asked Jake out for a beer. Fast forward three years to a chilly Super Saturday, and Jake had big plans in store. Jonna didn't question celebrating Valentine's Day a week early or having dinner at 4:30 PM, sensing that Jake was just trying to be "more romantic". After dinner, Jake invited Jonna to the backyard and asked her to dance. With Brooks and Dunn playing softly in the background, Jake nervously got down on one knee. Completely caught off guard, Jonna was initially taken aback and blurted out "Shut up!" before tearfully saying "Yes".
