Our Story

Started from the library, now we're here

Since you know us pretty well, we don't need to explain why we have two "takes" on Our Story ...

Jessie's Take

..................................

We met in the UGA law library in August of 2015 before my first day of law school. Jake offered to send me his outlines from 1L classes, along with some unsolicited advice on teachers and reading materials. We were friendly that first semester - nothing more than quick chats at bar review and the occasional study session with mutual friends (I was way too studious at that time to think about anything other than the awful cold calls and LRW assignments). Fast forward to the reading days of my 1L Spring semester. Those quick chats at bar review became the only chat at bar review and those occasional study sessions, the norm. Texts began to include, "want an iced coffee at Dunkin?" and "are you busy tonight?"... you know how the story goes. What sealed the deal? Before we parted ways for summer break, Jake decided to upgrade his wheels to a slick new Cadillac. He was so excited to make the switch before his summer beach trip with friends, that he forgot to look through his old car to make sure he had retrieved all his personal belongings (typical man). Well, he had inadvertently left behind his most prized possession -- his Taylor Swift 1989 CD. He was moody, depressed, and just plain upset for days. When we said goodbye in the North Deck Parking Lot, I slipped a present in his briefcase. And guess who rocked out to T-Swift all the way to the beach? The rest is history!

Jake's Take

..................................

Jessie was starting her first year at UGA, so our first conversations were all about Athens restaurants and the gut-punch of getting cold-called in class. In reality, I was only a few months removed from her situation, but I tried my best to play the veteran. Nervous and floundering, I tossed out the only line I had—I offered my notes from my first year classes. If I wasn’t marrying Jessie, that would go down as the lamest line in history, but history is written by the victors. It worked. She loved me. The End. We didn’t date until the next year, but I love to reminisce on that first year because of how much Jessie has grown since then. She went from the girl sneaking Legally Blonde references into her work to the girl still sneaking Legally Blonde references into her work. After a long summer away, the time was right. I somewhat tricked Jessie into our first real date. A “how we met” section is the only place you can put a sentence like that in writing. In all seriousness, I would try every few days to convince Jessie to ditch the library for dinner downtown. I thought she said no because she was so studious, but now I know that it was me being too cavalier. I was asking Jessie on the last first date she would go on, and I was probably wearing a hoodie. She knew I would never forgive myself. When it happened, it was perfect. I picked a place with fresh hummus, and we joked about whether Georgia or Florida had the better Gainesville. It worked. She loved me. The End.

The jury is out... what is the verdict?
