That intermittent cannon fire you might hear during your stay? That's coming from re-enactors here. Built in the late 17th century, the Castillo originally served as an outpost of the Spanish Empire guarding St. Augustine. Learn more about the fort's (and the city's) history by touring its grounds.
Try a kayak tour along St. Augustine's Bayfront, under the Bridge of Lions, past the Castillo and into the nearby marshes. You might find dolphins, flying fish, egrets, spoonbills, or all of the above! At the very least you'll get a decent workout and great downtown views. Fun for beginners and more experienced paddlers.
These kayak and stand-up paddle boarding tours head out on Salt Run across from the St. Augustine Lighthouse. They offer great views of Anastasia State Park and chances to spot birds and marine life.
If you want to get close, but not too close, to some gators and various other reptiles, mammals and birds.
Stating the obvious here, so you don't miss it. The beach is beautiful! There's a parking lot in front of the pier. If you're game to drive a little farther south on A1A, Crescent Beach and Matanzas Inlet are great spots too.
Local favorite coffee shop serving specialty coffee, espresso... and delicious Aussie pies.
Great kitschy place tucked in downtown serving locally sourced Southern fare, including plentiful vegan/vegetarian options.
Peruvian food; formal, intimate place on the island with many wonderful dishes, lots of fish/ceviche options. This one is a splurge, but worth it!
Cool breakfast/comfort food spot in Lincolnville, with a homey atmosphere, hearty portions and killer biscuits.
Low-key beachside dining with Filipino and American food. They have pancit, chicken & pork adobo and lumpia. Side note: Tina & Jake's first apartment together was in dangerously close walking distance to this deliciousness.
Cool ice pops made locally with lots of unique flavors–like "Elvis" (peanut butter, banana and honey, uh-huh-huh).
A very Instagram-worthy traditional Spanish/Cuban restaurant with a tasty menu, located on St. George Street.
